Fat tyres do one thing extremely well: they let you stop thinking about the surface. Kerbs, cobbles, gravel, canal towpaths, packed sand and frozen ruts all stop being obstacles and become just road. Run at low pressure, a 4-inch tyre is doing most of the work a suspension fork would otherwise do.
Every bike here is a 250 W EU pedelec limited to 25 km/h, so it is road legal in Germany, the Netherlands and France without a licence or plate.
