Overview

This is the ABE-designated variant of the ENGWE Y700, intended for the German market. ABE — Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis — is the type approval issued by the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt that a scooter needs before it can legally be used on German public roads.

Why riders choose the ENGWE Y700 ABE

  • German-market variant of the Y700 platform.
  • Supplied in Black.

ENGWE Y700 ABE in detail

What ABE actually means

A German ABE requires a design speed of no more than 20 km/h, two independent brakes, front and rear lighting, reflectors, a bell and a handlebar. The approval number and type plate must be on the frame and the paperwork must be carried when riding. An ABE also does not replace the insurance plate, which must be renewed each March.

Why we are being careful here

The standard Y700 is specified at 25 km/h, which is above the 20 km/h ceiling for an ABE. We are asking ENGWE to supply the KBA approval number and documentation for this variant before we make any road-legality claim for it. Until we have that in writing, please treat this listing as unconfirmed for German road use.

Who it suits

  • German buyers specifically seeking an approved scooter — once approval documentation is confirmed

Road legality and safety

We have asked ENGWE to provide the KBA approval number and ABE documentation for this variant, and we will publish it here once received. Until then we cannot confirm that this scooter is road legal in Germany, and we will not claim that it is. Please contact us before ordering if German road use is the reason you are buying it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this scooter road legal in Germany?

We cannot confirm that yet. The variant is designated ABE by ENGWE, but we are waiting on the KBA approval number and documentation before making that claim. Contact us for the current position before ordering.

What is the difference between this and the standard Y700?

The ABE designation indicates a German-market variant. We are confirming the exact technical differences, including design speed, with ENGWE.

Do I still need insurance?

Yes. Even with a valid ABE, German law requires a current insurance plate, renewed every March. The 2026/27 plate is black.
