Overview

The Zip is the only bike here you can charge from a laptop charger. ENGWE's patented triple-folding frame collapses it into a genuinely small package, and the 360 Wh LG pack takes USB-C Power Delivery — so one cable covers your phone, your laptop and your bike.

Why riders choose the ENGWE Zip

  • USB-C PD 3.0 charging. No proprietary brick to lose. Charge at a desk, in a café, from a power bank rated for it.
  • Patented triple-folding design. Folds three ways rather than one, which is what makes it small enough for a train luggage rack or under a desk.
  • LG cells with BMS. 360 Wh of known-quantity battery rather than an unbranded pack.
  • Hydraulic disc brakes and a 3.2" colour display with Bluetooth — specification you would normally pay more for.
  • TÜV certified to EN 15194, with IPX7-rated wiring.

ENGWE Zip in detail

Who the Zip is really for

It is a last-mile and mixed-mode bike. If your journey is train-then-ride, or you need the bike to disappear under a desk at work, nothing else in this range folds as small. If you ride 30 km each way, the 360 Wh battery will be the limiting factor.

16-inch wheels

Smaller wheels fold smaller and accelerate quickly, but they follow potholes more than a 20" wheel. The 1.95" urban hybrid tyres take the sting out on normal city surfaces.

Weatherproofing

IPX7 wiring, IPX6 display and lights, IPX5 motor, controller and battery. Commuting in rain is what it is built for.

Who it suits

  • Train-and-ride commuters
  • Small flats, offices and boats where storage space decides the purchase
  • Riders who want a folder that is easy to lift and carry

Road legality and safety

This model is supplied in EU pedelec specification: a 250 W nominal motor with assistance that cuts out at 25 km/h, as required by EN 15194. In Germany, the Netherlands and France that means no driving licence, registration, insurance or number plate is needed to ride it on public roads and cycle paths. Riders in the Netherlands should note the government has announced plans to require helmets for riders and passengers under 18 on all electric bicycles, with September 2027 given as the intended start date — check the current rules before buying for a younger rider.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really charge it over USB-C?

Yes — the battery supports USB-C Power Delivery 3.0. Charging speed depends on the wattage your charger can supply; a high-output laptop charger will be far quicker than a phone plug.

How small does it fold?

ENGWE's triple-folding design collapses the frame, stem and pedals. It is the most compact bike in this catalogue when folded.

Is 360 Wh enough?

For city journeys up to roughly 15–20 km each way, generally yes. For longer commutes or hilly routes, the P275 SE or an L20 with a bigger pack is the safer choice.

Is it certified for EU roads?

Yes — CE to EN 15194, certified by TÜV, with a 250 W motor limited to 25 km/h.
