What you give up for the weight

40 Nm of torque is modest. On steep climbs you will be working. If you live somewhere hilly, the N1 Pro doubles the torque to 80 Nm for €300 more.

Choosing your build

Four decisions: hydraulic or mechanical brakes, ST (step-through) or standard frame, and two colours. Hydraulic is the better brake in the wet; step-through has a lower 100 kg payload against 120 kg for the standard frame.

Tyres and surface

700 × 38C tyres are a road-and-light-gravel size. Comfortable on tarmac, fine on canal paths, wrong for sand or mud.

Road legality and safety

This model is supplied in EU pedelec specification: a 250 W nominal motor with assistance that cuts out at 25 km/h, as required by EN 15194. In Germany, the Netherlands and France that means no driving licence, registration, insurance or number plate is needed to ride it on public roads and cycle paths. Riders in the Netherlands should note the government has announced plans to require helmets for riders and passengers under 18 on all electric bicycles, with September 2027 given as the intended start date — check the current rules before buying for a younger rider.

ENGWE builds GPRS tracking into the bike and surfaces it through their app. Confirm any data or subscription requirements with ENGWE before relying on it as your sole anti-theft measure.
