Overview
The 3.0 is the EP-2 grown up. A step-through magnesium frame swallows the battery inside the downtube, the mechanical brakes are replaced by dual-piston hydraulics, and boost torque climbs to 75 Nm — all while keeping the TÜV-certified 250 W EU drivetrain.
Why riders choose the ENGWE EP-2 3.0 Boost
- Step through, not over. The low frame makes a 32 kg fat bike genuinely easy to mount, which matters more than it sounds when you are stopping at every junction.
- Hydraulic dual-piston brakes. Less lever effort, better modulation in the wet and far less cable maintenance than the mechanical brakes on the original EP-2.
- 648 Wh hidden in the frame. 21700 cells with BMS protection, integrated rather than bolted on — cleaner lines and one less thing to catch on a doorway.
- 75 Nm on demand. Five assistance levels plus a boost function for hills, without exceeding the 25 km/h legal cut-off.
- Certified, not just claimed. CE to EN 15194, certified by TÜV.
ENGWE EP-2 3.0 Boost in detail
Weatherproofing
ENGWE rates the wiring to IPX7, the display and lights to IPX6, and the motor, controller and battery box to IPX5. In plain terms: ride it in rain, do not jet wash it and do not submerge it.
Fit
Quoted rider height is 165–190 cm. The step-through frame widens who can ride it comfortably, but the reach is still set up for taller riders — under 165 cm, the P275 SE or Zip is a better fit.
Against the original EP-2 Boost
You are paying roughly €250 more for hydraulic brakes, a bigger battery, more boost torque, an integrated pack and the step-through frame. If you ride hilly or wet routes, or mount and dismount often, it is the better bike. On flat, dry commutes the original still makes a strong case.
Who it suits
- Riders who want fat-tyre comfort with an easy step-through mount
- Hilly or wet commutes where hydraulic braking earns its keep
- Anyone who wants the battery hidden and protected inside the frame

Road legality and safety
This model is supplied in EU pedelec specification: a 250 W nominal motor with assistance that cuts out at 25 km/h, as required by EN 15194. In Germany, the Netherlands and France that means no driving licence, registration, insurance or number plate is needed to ride it on public roads and cycle paths. Riders in the Netherlands should note the government has announced plans to require helmets for riders and passengers under 18 on all electric bicycles, with September 2027 given as the intended start date — check the current rules before buying for a younger rider.
